Policy Establishing Permitted E-Bikes on PFW Rides

  1. Introduction: E-Bike popularity has been steadily increasing with several members now employing them on Princeton Free Wheeler (PFW) rides. The number of e-bike options has also increased with several power options now available to riders. E-bikes offer members the ability to continue participation in group rides offered by the club in cases where they would not be able to ride without them. The Board of Trustees has determined that it is necessary to define the types of e-bikes that are appropriate for PFW rides which will provide the best combination of rider safety while maintaining the spirit of road cycling.

  2. Allowable E-Bikes: Pedal assist e-bikes are the only class of e-bike that are explicitly permitted on PFW rides. E-bike riders are expected to follow the same ride rules that are requirements of every PFW ride.

  3. Disallowed E-Bikes: Throttle-assist, and dual pedal e-bikes of any configuration, are prohibited on PFW rides.
