Volunteers Needed – Tour of Somerset County
The Tour of Somerville is a well-established bicycle race with a deep history that has been performed annually since 1947. This year, the race will be conducted on Labor Day weekend (September 4th – September 6th) as it resumes following a pandemic related postponement in 2020.
In conjunction with The Tour, a multi-distance recreational bike ride through scenic Somerset County will be held on August 29th. The race organizers have invited the Princeton Freewheelers (PFW) and other New Jersey bicycle clubs to provide volunteer support for the ride. PFW has accepted this invitation and will be responsible for a section of the 42 mile ride between Colonial Park in Somerset and Skillman Park. The day of race volunteers will be needed before 8:00 am at the ride’s starting point and at the Skillman Park rest stop.
Volunteer responsibilities include the following:
-
Course marking in advance of the ride (likely on August 27th),
-
Setup and manning a rest stop in Skillman Park on the day of the ride,
-
Cycling the course as a marshal during the ride by riding the course with the entrants from start to finish.
Approximately ten (10) volunteers will be needed.
If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please contact David Speis (therave17@verizon.net) and Peter Harnett (harnett.peter@gmail.com) with your intentions and the task that you’d like to perform.
The link to the event follows. The PFW section of the race has not been finalized, however, the changes that PFW has suggested are being evaluated.
